Dr.Seuss
I am thinking a bit about Dr. Seuss b/c a youtube video about his art was recommended. I had no idea about his art, which ranged from political cartoons, to children’s books, to a whole series entitled “boners”. The video I watched didn’t think it was a euphemism, but it’s pretty clear from the art that it is.
He also had a series to be published after his death called “Midnight Art”. These show a cat in the hat alter and I have to wonder if Dr. Seuss had a secret to hide. His portraits of women as birds are extremely sexist. It seems he really didn’t think highly of women, or perhaps other people in general. I always suspect that when sexism is present a general malaise for humanity is also likely bubbling below the surface.
He had a series called “Unorthodox Taxidermy” and it reminds me of horrific experiments done on animals, not to mention body horror:
Sorta looks like Trump!
Anyway I don’t have much confirmation about Seuss, but I often wonder at the art we were subjected to as children. I think he deserves a deep dive of his own, but for now gets this blog post.
Good post. I learn something totally new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon on a daily basis. Its always useful to read content from other authors and practice something from their websites.
